Dean's One Month

I look back and I wish that I had taken more pictures of Scott.
I wish I had kept track of his month by month growth.
So I when I saw this idea on pinterest I decided I would do it for my next.
So here is the first of the 12 month montage of Dean's first year.

Friends that Last

I am blessed.
I didn't used to think I was.
I had a hard time finding friends that I felt close to.
But when I went to Snow College my prayers were answered.
I got Jill and Brandi as room mates and as best friends.
Just the thought of these girls makes me happy.
Makes me feel young again.
Well Brandi came to town so we got together for lunch and a day on the farm.
Brandi has two kids that are completely adorable and who Scott instantly became friends with.
Which was good because it meant that while they ran around and played with one another the three of us could chat and laugh like no time had past.
Gosh, I love these girls.
They remind me, without even knowing it, that God hears prayers and gives us what we need.
We can't let it be so long before we get together.

Dean's 2 Weeks old

If you can't tell this boy does a lot of sleeping.
In fact all he seems to do is sleep and eat and poop, sometimes all at the same time.
It's amazing having this boy in our home.
I love snuggling him.
I love holding him while he sleeps.
I love watching him and wondering what he's dreaming about.
Mark thinks it's creepy when I watch him sleep but as him mother I don't think there's anything creepy about it.
Love my Bubba Dean.
Here's his stats from his appointment.
Weight..........8.8lbs..........69%
Height..........21.9"..........98%
Head..........14.25"..........72%
I can't help but compare his stats with Scott's from the same age so to make things easier on me I thought I'd post them here too instead of trying to find them in the past posts.
Weight..........7.6lbs..........22%
Height..........21"..........76%
Head..........14"..........50%
Dean is looking to be bigger then Scott.
But Scott was still thin and long at this stage.
He certainly bulked up from this point on.
It'll be interesting to see how Dean develops and grows.

Keeping it in the Family

I can't help but think that my boys look alike.
Here is Mark in the left and Dean in the right.
Mark's nose appears bigger but they have such similar looks.

This is Scott in the left and Dean in the right and again, totally similar.
They are also wearing the same outfits.

I have come to the conclusion that while Scott and Dean look alike Scott has a bit more of the McEvoy side to him and Dean has a bit more of the Ellis side to him.
I love seeing Mark and I in the faces of our children.
They make us look good.

Brothers Gotta Hug

Scott is so in love with his brother.
He's not showing any signs of jealousy.
Mark and I are trying so hard to keep attention coming his way and not just on baby.
Scott loves to give Dean attention.
He rushes to his side at the first sound of a whimper.
He checks on him first thing in the morning.
He is loves to give him hugs and kisses.
He once again is in love with watching "Baby Ice Age" (the first one) because it has the baby in it.
It is seriously all he wants to watch.
He brings the baby his whale softness every time he sees him without it because he knows he wants it.
He really wants to feed him but that's better left to mommy.
He will pretty much do anything if you say it is for baby Dean.
Mark is taking advantage of that one.
Telling him things like Dean doesn't want to watch Baby Ice Age again, he wants to watch Pirate Ice Age (the fourth one).
But it works.
Dean and I went to take a nap in my room this afternoon.
I told him he could only stay in here if he wanted to take a nap.
This has worked other days when I have wanted a nap.
Like always he ran from the room.
But like never he came back a minute later.
Why? you may ask.
Because he had to grab his and babies  softness so they could take a nap.
He laid down and fell asleep as close to Dean as he could get safely.
These are my perfect wonderful boys.

Dean Meeting the Family

Dean, being the cute baby that he is, can really draw a crowd.
My parents came right after he was born using Scott as the excuse.
They would be watching Scott for us while I was in the hospital.
I don't know how we missed it again but we didn't get a picture of my mom again.
I'll have to see if my dad did.
But here's my dad holding their 12th grandchild.

Here are my sisters who came the next day.
Kate just loves babies.
She has a hard time sharing.
Even with the mamma and the pappa.

And Mark's parents came down that evening along with James.
We had a fun visit with some very funny and random confessions from Mark's childhood.

Dean, you are so loved by all your family.

Dean Sinclair Ellis

We have a new addition to our family.
Our little Dean Sinclair Ellis was born on January 24, 2014 at 6:10 pm.
He came in weighing 7 lbs 11oz and 20 inches long.
It was a long wait in the hospital for Mark and I so of course we had to take a picture.

We got in the hospital around 7, got my water broken at about 8 or 8:30 and then waited.
I really wanted to try to just go into labor and not use pitocin.
I was dilated to a 4 or a 5 and was 80% effaced when we went into the hospital.
But come 2:00 with no progression we decided to start it but slowly.
My nurse left about that same time.
A new nurse came into to check on me but only checked my progression once.
I started having contractions every two and a half minutes regularly around 3:30 but no one checked my progression.
I sent Mark to get himself dinner around 5:30.
I was getting bugged at that point, I was hungry, I was bored, and no one seemed to be too concerned with me.
At 5:45 my original nurse came in.
She was so sorry to leave but she had to help deliver a baby that took three hours, not cool.
She was also surprised no one had checked on me.
So she does and was shocked to find baby 100% ready to come.
I started to freak out.
Mark wasn't there.
I never would have sent him out if someone had checked on me and told me I had progressed.
Luckily, I called Mark, he was close and came rushing over.
He got there in time and I started to push.
Four good pushes and he was out.
All that waiting, as annoying as it was, made things for super fast in the end.
And I finally got to hold this little bundle.

Here is my wonderful doctor who put up with all my crazy for the last eight months.
We love Dr. Langer.

Scotty seeing his baby brother for the first time.
He was so calm and sober and proud.
He knew exactly who the baby was, his little brother.

And here are all my boys.
Mark and I were so excited and a little nervous for Scott to meet his baby brother.
Scott seemed to understand that there was a baby coming but did he really understand how life was going to change?
I don't think any child can really know.
But seeing Scott meeting his brother for the first time was one of the best moments for Mark and I.
He just loved him instantly.
Scott and baby Dean exchanged gifts also.
Scott had bought the baby his own softness.
It has a whale on the top.
And baby Dean got Scott a Thomas the Train Lego set.
This helped to seal the deal that Dean was very welcome.

And here is my perfect baby Dean.
